Charlie's Blog #97: Taking Offense

Taking Offense

I'm not 100% sure about this yet, but I'm thinking that to take offense, at anything, simply to be offended, is small minded. This is because being offended fails to consider that under different circumstances you could be the one giving the offense. Along with feeling offended always comes the thought "I would never do that!" But it simply isn't true. If something someone says or does offends you, consider that if you were in that person's shoes, you might be giving the very same offense. If you had been born that person instead of you, and had lived the life that person has lived up to this very moment, you would be the one giving the offense.

So the question becomes, is there any situation where to be offended is the correct and appropriate response?

I mean, I don't know, but I can't think of any. Can you? Like I said, I'm not entirely sure about this yet. I'm really looking for feedback on this idea. :-) Is there any situation where the right response is to take offense?

Comment on this, please! :-)
