RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Plasma chemistry

• ilmenite (FeTiO₃) processing;
•  nitric oxides synthesis in an arc plasma and a microwave plasma;
•  SiO preparation via reduction of SiO₂ by hydrogen in a High Frequency plasma or in an arc plasma;
•  TiO₂ reduction by hydrogen in an arc and in an induction coupled plasma device;
•  ZrO₂ reduction by hydrogen in an arc plasma;
•  heavy hydrocarbons cracking and hydrogenation;
•  light hydrocarbons cracking, reforming or partial oxidation in order to produce H₂, CO, C₂H₂, C₂H₄;
• hydrogen sulphide destruction and full or partial upgrading in oil and gas industry as well as in geothermy;
•  plasmachemical methods for pollution control, especially for VOC abatement in flue gases of different sources;
•  concentrated N₂O processing (conversion into NO_x or abatement);
•  flue-gas SO_x or NO_x reduction to elements;
•  soot after-burning;
•  chloro- and/or fluoro-organics destruction and/or upgrading;
•  CO₂ upgrading;
•  solid matter activation, preheating, cleaning;
•  processing of liquids.

Plasma technology

• free burning arcs (up to 1500 A);
•  classical plasma torches fed by rare gases (Ar, He or Ne), nitrogen or water;
•  wall-stabilized arcs (up to 800 A);
•  HF plasmas (atmospheric pressure, 25 kW);
•  microwave plasma (3 kW);
•  plasma spraying for thick a-Al₂O₃ coatings on ceramic materials;
•  transparent coatings of Al₂O₃ using a microwave plasma;
•  cermetallic (W + Al₂O₃) and resistive (Ta or Cu and Al₂O₃) thick coatings;
•  new type of rotating arc reactor;
•  high current circuit breakers;
•  electro-burners in which a part of fuel is substituted for electrical energy;
• gliding arcs and other high-voltage discharge devices;
•  high voltage discharges to liquid electrodes;
