Estes AIM-9 Sidewinder
EST 2125

This is a 1/4th scale of the the air-to-air missle. It's my first fully scale rocket. It was pretty hard to build. It's defenatly on the higher side of the beta series. It has to parachutes, one for the booster and one for the nose and there is no shock cord, they seperate, but land real close to each other anyway.

This rocket takes off real slow, but I don't trust it. After it was almost destroyed on 11/10/99 I'm kind of afraid of it. Those C engines aren't enough for it. This rocket was made for D's I'd have to say.

I finally figured something out about this rocket. After the flight on 11/23/99, I realized that if you point it at an angle, it will lose control. So if you own one of these you might want to remember that.

Launch Log

Flight # Date Engine Weather Comments
1 11/6/99 C6-3 Windy Excellent flight. Takes off real slow. Nose and body landed only about a yard away from each other.
2 11/7/99 C6-3 Windy Arched halfway up in the direction of the wind. Body landed in road right next to moving car, nose landed on floating seaweed right next to shore. This could have been very ugly.
3 11/10/99 C6-3 Light wind A second into the flight the rocket tipped sideways, did a little fish tail move and shot straight off into the woods. Found body in large tree with split fin, nose landed in small bush. Spent 3 hours trying to get body down. Finaly did with two large sticks nailed togethor. Glued fin togethor and repainted it.
4 11/18/99 C6-3 No wind Good flight, nose chute didn't open.
5 11/21/99 C6-3 No wind Good flight, nose landed in tree.
6 11/23/99 C6-3 Light wind Took off kind of sideways, good recovery.
7 3/26/00 C6-3 Light wind Good flight, good recovery.
8 6/14/00 C6-3 Lt. wind Angled towards the woods after liftoff. Didn't land in any trees though.
