Sarah's Fleet

Yes, my older daughter, Sarah, is participating in this craziness.  She's built and launched several rockets (pictures linked below under "Actual Pictures"):

Estes Alpha IV 1 Alpha IV Ready to go again!
Things go better with Cherry Coke!!
2 It flies!!! A birthday present from Larry to add to her Coke bottle collection! Repaired after minor damage, and ready to fly again. Here's how I built it.
Estes Fat Boy 1 Ready for first launch We flew it with a B6-6.  That sounded great (based on experience with other little rockets), but....   It flew ~150 feet up, then nosed down and hit the ground before the parachute could eject.  RockSim, in hind sight, showed it would fly ~138 feet but impact before opening...  I guess that's why Estes recommends a B6-2 for the first flight!  Oh well, we'll read more closely next time. Nose cone jammed in so tight we can't pull it out!  :-(

10/4 Update-Rebuilt and ready to fly. I had to trim off ~1 cm of body tube to free the nose cone, and reposition the shock cord.

Rebuilt Estes Fat Boy 3 Ready for more. Launched twice on 10/11. One flight calculated at ~330 feet on C6-3.
Launched 4/1/00 on a C6-3. Chute opened about 50 feet above ground, causing us quite a scare, but a perfect landing!
Estes Alpha III 0 Ready to paint Sarah has named this one, "Little Joe", in honor of our friend.
