Waterfall Bay field hut is located about 3/4 of the way down the island on the more sheltered East coast, an eight to ten hour stiff walk from the research station via the plateau. It comprises a fibreglass Googie & wooden cold porch and comfortably sleeps three people (6 in an emergency). All huts are equipped with a gas cooker, 12V wind generator, a small 240v petrol generator, comprehensive medical kit and plenty of food & fuel supplies. Wooden boardwalks are used around Waterfall bay hut as it is located in a very boggy area.  The hut is used all year round by biologists conducting coastal surveys of the local seal population and by expeditioners visiting the huge King penguin colony at nearby Lusitania Bay. The mountain in the background is Mt. Aurora.

Recent heavy winds have caused some damage at the field huts; the 12 volt wind generator to the left of the hut at Waterfall Bay recently shattered & was literally blown away by wind gusts well over 100 miles per hour.
