More than anything else the sensation is one of perfect peace mingled with an excitement that strains every nerve to the utmost, if you can conceive of such a combination.

— Wilbur Wright

The exhilaration of flying is too keen, the pleasure too great, for it to be neglected as a sport.

— Orville Wright

It may be that pilots are happy only when they are at home. And it may be that they are at home only when they can somehow touch the sky.

Safety:    At our fly-ins and meetings our experienced club pilots will be glad to talk to anyone about gyro flying and gyro safety.  ST. LOUIS ROTORCRAFT  is working hard to try to help all of the PRA members learn what to do and how to do it safely.  There are some real lessons to be learned.

ST. LOUIS ROTORCRAFT PLEDGE

I PLEDGE to immediately speak up and talk with my friend or anyone else involved in flying activities whenever I see or hear that he/she is in a situation or an activity in which I have a safety concern.  I PLEDGE to speak up in the interest of my friend because I value my friend’s life.  I PLEDGE to speak my concern privately and constructively directly to that person, without scorn or criticism, so that he or she may objectively consider my concerns.  I pledge to speak up even though I may not consider my experience or status to be equal to my friend’s experience or status, because I may save my friend’s life.

I PLEDGE to cordially say “THANK YOU” to anyone who speaks to me about my safety or the safety of people around me - whether they piss me off or not!  I PLEDGE to objectively consider anyone’s safety concern expressed to me - whether they know what they’re talking about or not!  I PLEDGE to further investigate any safety concern expressed to me about my flying activities.  I PLEDGE to treat anyone who so speaks up to me cordially and respectfully - because they care about me.

CODE WORDS:  “I PLEDGE” and
“THANK YOU”

Use the code words “I PLEDGE” whenever you want to speak up to anyone so that they may be reminded that you are speaking up out of concern for their life and safety.  If they are unfamiliar with the pledge you have taken, explain it to them and ask them if they would like to take the “I PLEDGE” pledge.

Use the code words “THANK YOU” whenever someone is trying to help you avoid injury to yourself or others.  Say “THANK YOU” even if you don’t like what they say!
