Gulf Fritillaries (Agraulis vanillae) mating These pictures are of butterflies in Southeast Arizona. Except as otherwise noted, they are from the foothills of the Huachuca Mountains near Sierra Vista, which is about 70 miles southeast of Tucson. This is a wonderful location for butterflies. The climate makes butterflying a hobby you can easily pursue 9 months of the year. I took the pictures using a variety of media. They include scans from 35mm slides, digital captures of VHS-C format camcorder footage, and digital still camera images.
