Aldborough v Drayton 13th May 2006

Drayton 220 (A. Hawes 46, P. Wright 51) Aldborough 221-8 (D. Robinson 52) The first team were put into bat on an Aldborough pitch which seemed to offer something for both batsman and bowlers. Opening pair Andy Hawes and Philip Wright prospered against some wayward bowling in adding 90 for the first wicket in 18 overs before Hawes top edged an attempted pull. Wright and Paul Eggett then added 42 in 6 overs before Wright fell two balls after reaching his first half century of the season. Thereafter there was a steady stream of runs and wicketsin which Paul Eggett (27) and Lee Cornfield (30) were the main contributors in a final total of 220 - however Drayton had not used eight balls of their innings which came back to haunt them later.

In reply, Aldborough's openers Cooper (39) and Robinson (52) added 80 for the first wicket - however much like Drayton's innings earlier, there then followed a flow of runs and wickets. Drayton were guilty of conceding 17 wides and 8 no balls, thereby adding four extra overs to the Aldborough innings. However, with Aldborough losing their eighth wicket shy of the 200 mark, Drayton should have perhaps gone on to win the match. However, W. Mimms hit two sixes and two fours to see his side home in the gathering gloom. For Drayton, Gary Foreman and Lee Cornfield took two wickets, whilst Gary Smith's third and final wicket was his 900th for the club.
