Drayton v Aldborough 9th June 2007

Aldborough 179 Drayton 120 The scores suggest this was a similar performance to last week's game at Acle. In truth Drayton could take some positives from this game against a competitive Aldborough side. Aldborough won the toss and batted on a pitch still damp from the heavy rain on Friday morning. Drayton opening bowler Michael Mario-Ghae picked up the early scalps of G. Cooper and D. Fahy, and when Lee Cornfield dismissed E. Botwright thanks to a sharp catch from Stewart Forton, the visitors were 45-3. Thereafter wickets came at regular intervals but Aldborough were able to put together useful partnerships while always scoring at a brisk rate. Kevin Bacon with 26 and J. Perry-Warnes with 31 were the main run scorers, whilst for Drayton, Mario-Ghae took 4-41 and Gary Foreman a fine 4-34.

After the early loss of Andy Hawes, Howard Davies and Gary Smith put together a partnerhip of 35, before Davies was bowled by Holroyd for 18. That turned out to be the highest partnership of the innings as wickets fell regularly against some accurate bowling on a pitch starting to get lower. Smith was top scorer with 28, whilst Mario-Ghae struck some fine shots in his cameo of 18. For Aldborough, Holroyd took 4-26 and Ash Barnard 3-14.
