Drayton 'A' v Frettenham 28th July 2007

Frettenham 32 Drayton 'A' 33-2 With the end of the season fast approaching and only five games remaining including last Saturday it feels as if the season has hardly got underway. The 'A' team entertained Frettenham - with Drayton looking for revenge following their defeat in the reverse fixture, and also to displace Frettenham who were second in the table - Drayton were well and truly fired up for the occasion.

Captain Daz Flatt won the toss and elected to take the field with the track looking to favour the pace of Jason Trett and Jamie Scarff. Frettenham - having a depleted and weakened side - proved no match to the strength in depth of the home side's batting and bowling. Frettenham's captain, opener Mike Barham showed great guts and resistance to the accurate bowling of both Trett and Scarff. In the 9th over with the score on 13 - Trett's extra pace cut the ball back into Barham who lofted a mid off drive over the bowlers head only for the speed of Graham Crowe to superby catch the opener for 8. Trett's next delivery cartwheeled Turner's middle stump. Having successfully avoided the jug which a hat trick would have brought, Trett took the third wicket in the same over with his last ball. Scarff had adapted well to bowling up the hill conceding only seven runs in his first six overs - and it was his turn for a piece of the action when he removed Hussey to leave the score 19-4.

Trett unfortunately missed out on his five wicket haul following a dropped catch in the slips from Tony Gregory. The innings was quickly wrapped up following catches from Neil Chamberlain and James Reeve - final bowling figures were Trett 4-16 and Scarff 2-13, as the seven man visiting side were bowled out for 32.

Only needing 33 to win, Drayton got off to a bad start losing a wicket in the second over with the score on 2. Gregory joined Crowe at the crease, and the score gradually crept up to the target until, with just one required Crowe was bowled by Loades for 15. The target was eventually reached with Gregory 15 not out. The game prove to be an anti climax having been eagerly anticipated for several weeks.
