Drayton v Halvergate 3rd June 2006

Drayton 240-8 (J. Sutton 90*, M. Sutton 50, D. Foreman 11-2-63-4) Halvergate 184 (S. Brister 43, D. Carter 52, G. Foreman 11.4-4-33-6) The first decent weather of the season was seen at Drayton Rec, and on winning the toss Halvergate asked Drayton to bat. After Philip Wright and John Sutton added 37 in nine overs for the first wicket, they may have regretted their decision, and even after Wright was dismissed Sutton and Andy Hawes kept up the attack taking Drayton to 77-1 after 17 overs. Thereafter three wickets fell quickly, before Sutton and his father Mike steadied the ship with a 5th wicket partnership of 95 before the elder Sutton was caught for 50. John Sutton moved serenely to an unbeaten 90, whilst the Drayton big hitters struck at the other end. 35 were added in the last three overs, 19 of which came in the last over including a trademark six from Stewart Forton.

Halvergate's reply began at a rate similar to Draytons, and after 11 overs had reached an imposing 56-1. Drayton then rested control with three wickets of their own to reduce Halvergate to 68-4. Simon Brister and Danny Carter launched a counter attack - Carter in particular striking the ball with venom - however just as the game seemed to be getting beyond Drayton's reach, Lee Cornfield took an athletic catch to dismiss Carter for 52. Gary Foreman then took control taking two more wickets in the over - eventually finishing with 6-33 as Halvergate were bowled out for 184.
