Drayton 'A' v Ketteringham Hall 'A' 19th May 2007

Ketteringham Hall A 112 all out Drayton A 113-5 This rather bizarre contest ended with a win for Drayton A by 5 wickets.

It was a match for connoisseurs of the unusual. Two of the visitors' batsmen and one Drayton player departed to balls which bounced twice. Richard Taylor had to bowl and took two wickets (2-21). Marc Love was run out while he lay in agony on the ground in mid-pitch: his knee had popped out as took a second run (itself a curiosity, since he was batting with the President!). On a sadder note, Nigel Massingham, deputising as captain for James Kay, had to retire in mid-innings to attend his seriously ill father.

Ketteringham's innings revolved around Quinton, who scored 62. He played himself in patiently while wickets were falling regularly at the other end, then hit out as he started to run out of partners, with 46 of his runs coming in boundaries. Matt Bourne (3-29) and James Reeve (3-25) helped offset the fact that Drayton were missing three front-line bowlers.

Drayton were determined to take no chances when they batted, yet found themselves effectively 28-3 by the 9th over. Tony Gregory dug in, eventually scoring a nuggety 30 not out. He was ably assisted by Neil Chamberlain (a dashing 14) and a splendidly calm James Reeve, whose patient straight bat broke Ketteringham's hearts. He and Gregory got Drayton home in the 32nd over for a win, which lifts them to 3rd in the league.
