Old Buckenham v Drayton 29th April 2006

The first team lost their opening game of the season on Saturday against Old Buckenham 'A'. Drayton won the toss and opted to bowl first and despite a few early scares Old Buckenham's openers reached the half century mark without loss. Andy Denny, despite not having bowled a ball in nets, then proceded to remove the dangerous S. Mann with his first ball. After that things became a struggle for the batsman as Denny and Gary Foreman bowled with great control, both ending with three wickets. Gary Smith and Lee Cornfield returned to the attack and restricted the flow of runs in the last few overs, with the hosts closing on 158-9. In reply, Drayton lost five wickets inside the first 15 overs as Peter Goldsmith exploited the movement available off the pitch. Only Lee Cornfield, in making 36 not out (in two separate parts following a brief retirement) came to terms with the conditions as Drayton ended up being bowled out for 110. Despite the defeat, Drayton's outlook was positive following a good bowling and fielding display.
