Drayton v Old Buckenham 'A' 1st July 2006

Old Buckenham 'A' 206-8 (J. Lund 62, G. Smith 12-0-47-5) Drayton 208-4 (C. Sutton 54) The intense heat continued this weekend, and Drayton recorded their first win in six attempts against Old Buckenham 'A'. Old Buckenham won the toss and on a typically flat Drayton pitch, they raced to 72-2 after 15 overs. However, Gary Smith then enjoyed a purple patch taking four wickets in five overs to leave Old Bucks at 101-6. Pick of the dismissals were a classic delivery to remove Simon Mann caught behind, whilst Alistair Ogle caught Dave Cosford with a spectacular periscope like stretch. The visitors consolidated through the veterans John Lund and Nigel Armitage - the former as ever proving difficult to remove, and ending on 62. Final total was 206-8 - as well as Smith, Saul Simpson was the pick of the bowlers with 2-30.

In reply Drayton's openers, Andy Hawes and Philip Wright, punished anything loose in adding 38 in 8 overs before Wrightwas caught at slip for 21. Hawes was also dismissed for 21, which saw Paul Eggett and Chris Sutton combine in a partnership of 57 for the 3rd wicket. Eggett was looking back to his former self before being remove for 23. Sutton was joined by his father Mike in another 50 partnership, which saw Chris record his first half century of the season. The stage was then set for Andy Denny to thump three consecutive boundaries to give Drayton a six wicket win with over 5 overs to spare.
