Rollesby v Drayton 22nd July 2006

Rollesby 92 (A. Chaney 45) Drayton 97-4 The boiling hot weather of the previous couple of Saturdays remained at Rollesby, but had turned into an uncomfortable humid afternoon. Gary Foreman had no hesitation in asking the home side to bat upon winning the toss, but it took until the 8th over before Drayton made the breakthrough with the captain having Browning caught behind for 1. The game took a decisive turned in the following over. First Lee Cornfield bowled Duxbury round his legs, then had danger man Jimmy Catchpole caught at slip by Andy Hawes (via the gloves of Howard Davies), and finally had P. Cook trapped leg before to reduce Rollesby to 18-4. Resistance was offered by A. Chaney who swung hard, across the line, to make a brave 40 but only his captain D. Cook (10) was able to join him in double figures, as Rollesby were bowled out for 92. Cornfield (3-25), Foreman (1-19), Andy Denny (3-26) & Phil Soanes (2-14), all sharing the bowling honours.

Drayton then faced an uncomfortable 10 overs prior to tea. Philip Wright and Gary Smith were barely able to lay a bat on ball as D. Cook & P. Cook swung the ball prodigioudly. Wright was trapped leg before for 1, and in the final over before tea Andy Hawes was caught off a snorter for 3. After tea conditions seemed to change in the batsmans favour, Gary Smith started to play more confidently before falling lbw for 24 - and Mike Sutton looked in good touch before being caught for 14. As per the previous week, Chris Sutton saw Drayton home making 38 not out - finishing the match with a straight six off Nick Flett. This was a disappointment to many of the Drayton players who were expecting the "six specialist" Stewart Forton to finish the game in his own inimitable style!
