DRAYTON CRICKET CLUB SCHOOLS FESTIVAL 2007

Thursday, 24th May saw the first annual Schools' Festival at Drayton CC's ground. Nearly forty under 15 players, from Taverham, Hellesdon and Sprowston High Schools, enjoyed a day of cricket from 10.30am to 6.00pm, umpired by the President and Chairman.

Each team played two 20 over games. In the first, Taverham and Hellesdon proved to be evenly matched. Chasing 88, Hellesdon got home with several balls to spare, not least because they ran their singles more aggressively.

Against Sprowston, they got off to a positive start, before a collapse against some accurate bowling saw them dismissed for 58, which Sprowston reached comfortably.

In their final match, against Taverham, Sprowston's batsmen showed good shot-selection, defending against the better balls and finding the boundary regularly in reaching a challenging 128. Taverham tried to get after the bowling from the start, but lost wickets against all seven Sprowston bowlers.

The players for the three schools appear transfixed by the rare sight of sun in May!

Sprowston, the winning team show off their shield!
