Drayton v Swanton Morley 1st June 2008

Drayton 130-9 Swanton Morley 131-9 After a testing start to the season, Drayton's Sunday team were finally back in action against old rivals Swanton Morley, and were able to prove it doesn't need to be a high scoring game to be an exciting game. Containing just four players from last seasons regular line up, Drayton were asked to bat first and Tim Woods continued where he had left off hitting some powerful shots before being run out for 36. His opening partner James Reeve was defiantly watchful against the moving ball and gradually increaed in confidence as his innings progressed. Reeve ended the innings on 41 not out - and other than Woods, only Jason Trett, hitting some lusty blows in a rapid 14, made double figures in the final total of 130-9.

In reply, Swanton faced probing opening spells from both Reeve brothers, however it was debutant Chris Conley who struck the first blow, running out Packham before he had scored. By the time James Reeve's eighth over had produced two wickets - the visitors were reeling at 41-5, which allowed Drayton to introduce youngsters Ryan Pointer and Tom Barnes into the attack. Both bowled highly impressive spells and were both unlucky not to pick up wickets. Drayton took their sixth wicket in the 27th over, with the score on 76 when the unlucky batsman struck a double bouncing delivery straight back at bowler Steve King for a simple return catch. King, along with Tim Woods was unable to get a further breakthrough against a couple of the stronger Swanton batsman, and so captain Warren Kedge reintroduced his opening bowlers ahead of schedule. This provided due reward when Robert Reeve clean bowled G. Scriven for 32. Final bowling figures for the Reeve brothers were: Robert 10-2-31-2 and James 10-3-35-3. With five overs still to bowl, 20 runs were required and captain Kedge turned to Conley and Pointer to bowl. Two run outs thanks to James Reeve and wicketkeeper Jason Trett set the visitors nerves jangling, however with two balls to go, A. Waters launched Conley over midwicket for three to record a one wicket victory for Swanton Morley.
