Drayton 'A' v Topcroft 'B' 22nd July 2006

Topcroft 'B' 29 (A. Ogle 5-16) Drayton 'A' 30-0 Tony Gregory's 600th game for Drayton was played on a Drayton Rec. burnt brown as a ground in Pakistan. In Jamie Scarff's first over, Richard Taylor, at third slip, took a regulation catch, diving (okay, we'll settle for sprawling!) full-length to his left to pluck the ball in his left hand, inches in front of Gregory's right ankle. Competition for Saga Moment occurred in the fourth over, when Alistair Ogle found the edge of a Topcroft bat and the ball hit a relaxed Gregory in the chest. Thud. A flutter of hands and Tone pouched the ball: one for the collectors.

With this momentum, Drayton were not to be denied, and Scarff (2-10), Ogle (5-16, but forgot his wallet), Nigel Massingham (1-1, from five overs) and Taylor (1-1) removed Topcroft inside 18 overs.

Skipper James Kay fittingly sent Gregory out to open with Paul Eggert. They duly saw Drayton home. Eggert, under orders to let Greggers hit the winning run, nearly screwed the script, hitting a screaming extra cover drive with the scores level. Fortunately, the ball was brilliantly stopped by a young fielder. A beaming Gregory completed proceedings and left the field under a tunnel of stumps and bats.
