Drayton 'A' v Great Yarmouth 'A' 2nd June 2007

Great Yarmouth 'A' 208-8 Drayton 'A' 176-6

After last week's generosity with extras, this was more disciplined bowling performance by Drayton. After 8 overs, Yarmouth were 20-2, courtesy of a Mike Dennison special and neat run out, involving James Reeve who, with Chris Coupland, stood out in the field for Drayton. A determined stand of 80 between Hak (74) and Hodds (46) swung the game back Yarmouth's way. Having played themselves in on a slowish wicket, they started to hit boundaries over a fast outfield. Yarmouth, 84-2 after 25 overs, consciously accelerated after the drinks break, managing 6 runs an over with some clean hitting and aggressive running.

Chasing 208 to win, Drayton made a promising start, reaching 22 in the sixth over. Once two wickets fell, Yarmouth contained Drayton and the run rate fell further behind. At the end of the twenty-fourth over, Drayton were 64-3, needing to score at exactly 7 an over. Taylor and Coupland managed this for a while, adding 77 in 11 overs, with Coupland's innings blossoming after a watchful start. His 59 included 9 fours and one splendid six. Sadly, three wickets fell in adding 7 further runs, Yarmouth were able to push the field right back and Drayton were left with just batting points as their target.
