Another view of the castle.  You can easily see why Ludwig was called "The Fairy Tale King"

Here is another view in the fall.  It's quite an amazing site.  the lake in the background is the one where he died.  The Large castle on the small hillto the left is Hohenschwangau, his parents castle where he grew up.

Here is Ludwig's bedroom.  I''m sorry about the graininess of the photo, nut it is one of the first ones that I scanned, and hadn't learned all the photo editing processes yet.  It is really amazing to see the detail work in person.  It took 40 woodcarvers 4 1/2 years to complete.  You can bet there wasn't 40 hour work weeks then either.  He was a very religious man, so they probably got Sunday off.  Off to the left, inside the wall is a secret doorway into a private chapel.  Below the statue on the right is a large ceramic stove.  The castle was very modern, and it was connected to a large furnace in the basement that provided central heating to every room in the 5 story structure.
