Command & Conquer

These are a few strategies I have devised by playing C&C over the last few years.

I think you know what I'm going to say, right? The construction yard. Yes, the first thing you learn is that the construction yard is the most vital unit in the game. Just about all the tanks, artillery, infantry, and Orcas won't help you win if the enemy construction yard is intact. So, the most important question of the game is, "What is the best way to destroy a construction yard?" Well, I'm going to give you a few ways you can do that.

The easiest way to take out a construction yard is with air power. In Tiberium Dawn, GDI Orcas, in a large enough group, will quickly destroy any building. However, if the CY is well-protected with SAM's and/or rocket soldiers, you will need to send a very large (and expensive) force to accomplish the mission. Same thing in Red Alert. Air power, like MIGs and Longbows, can be useful. But again, five or six well-placed AA guns can chew up a huge force of MIGs. SAMs aren't quite as effective, but the Longbows spend a lot more time in thier range. Also, what if you are at a low tech level and can't build a sufficient air force? Well, there are three solutions.

The best GDI/Allied strategy is the use of the APC. Simply loading an APC with engineers and sending it into the enemy base, followed by unloading next to the CY, is a relatively low-cost, quick way to take out the enemy CY. I like to build enemy structures near my own base so I have access to other units. You can also sell the thing and sacrafice the survivors. This does get a bit harder to pull off in Red Alert, with the addition of the Soviet Tesla Coils, heavy and mammoth tanks, AP mines, and the fact that it takes more than one engineer to capture a building. But what about the Soviets and NOD? They have no APCs, so what can they do? Well, you could send a few dozen troops in hoping enough engineers get through, or you could try a few of my tactics.
A very good way to destroy a construction yard is with long-range powerful weapons, such as artillery, V2 rockets, and SSMs. One problem. These weapons can't take much damage, so they may easily be destroyed before accomplishing the mission. So what do you do? I have figured something out. The computer always, always, always fanatically defends it's harvester. The same goes for most human players, too. All you need to do is send one (probably more against a human) non-crushable unit, preferably a tank, into a Tiberium/ore field, and order it to attack an enemy harvester. The computer/human, being the predictable opponent he/she/it is, will usually send all the forces it can muster to protect the thing. When that happens, move in some artillery, APC's, tanks, whatever, and quickly destroy (I think it's best to do this in the following order) the CY, airstrip/war factory, barracks/hand of NOD, turrets/tesla coils, any remaining armored units, pillboxes, remaining infantry, ore refinery, AA defenses, anything else. Don't like any of these? You have three more options.

One of these options is to cut off the enemy's resources. You have probably realized that most good maps are designed so eventually the 2+ sides will be drawn into a battle over a central field of ore/Tiberium. All you need to do is occupy and use the majority of ore on the map, kill any harvesters, and slowly bleed the enemy to death. If you can do that, eventually the guy will run out of resources and either become easy pickings, or they will gather a huge force and retake the ore. If you don't have the patience for this, I have yet two more suggestions.

These two are fairly similer, both being considered "tank rushes" (some whiners will say this isn't fair, but ignore them, it's an effective tactic. Tell the crybabys that all's fair in war, and I'll back you up all the way) but sometimes one is more fit for the terrain and troop placement. The first way is to move a substantial force of tanks around the enemy base, and flank them. Punch a hole in their walls where they least expect it, and move the tanks in to destroy the CY. Then move in the infantry and more reinforcements. This allows you to bypass the frontal defenses that will be placed at the base's enterance. Now we are down to the last option

This is the old-fashioned, bloody, head-on assault. It's really simple. Just send in the tanks, destroy everything in your path, and you've won. That's all there is to it.

Oh, wait, one more option for destroying the CY. This is really cool. This only works for GDI in Tiberium Dawn. First, destroy all SAMs to gain access to airstrikes, then build an advanced com center. Then send in the airstrike, then hit the CY with the ion cannon. Right then send in a few Orcas. After being hit with two special weapons, a few choppers will take it out quickly, with almost no casualties.
