Travel

Travel is near and dear to my heart. Over the years I have been to a number of countries, and I hope to continue travelling in the future. The following is a list of the places I've been, and a travelogue of what I did there will hopefully soon follow:

Forensics

A long time interest that I've finally decided to pursue. Ever since visiting the Center of Forensic Science in high school my interest was piqued. Unfortunately there weren't any university programs around back then. However, last year I came across one that was starting in the fall. I was looking for a change and it seemed meant to be. The only problem was that the deadline to apply had passed, but not to despair. After phoning to get more information on the program I found that they were still accepting applications although the number of spots left were few. A little over a month later I was ecstatic to find out that I had been admitted, and in the fall of 2005 I went back to school again. Something I thought I'd never do again. And even better yet, I love it! Turns out that science is more up my alley than math was.

Space Exploration

I am something of a space buff. It all started, once upon a time, when I was 11 years old, on a year long tour of North America. We were in the middle of nowhere, a little place called Humptulips in the Washington peninsula, and to pass the time we rented a movie. Little did my parents know it, but that movie was the beginning of the end. The movie, Space Camp, was about a group of youngsters who go to an astronaut camp and are accidentally launched into space. That movie captured my imagination, and it was then that I knew I wanted to be an astronaut. By the time we made it to Florida some six months later I had made it my mission to attend Space Camp. While touring the Kennedy Space center I picked up a brochure which I later showed to my parents while pleading my cause. My wish was granted, but the price was that I would pay half the cost which was almost every cent in my bank account. I handed it over gladly and was on my way to Titusville, Florida (near Kennedy Space Center) to Space Camp. I spent the next five days learning about the astronaut program, participating in a mock mission, and building my own rocket. It was such a great experience that after returning home the next year I flew to Huntsville, Alabama to attend Space Academy. Here I had an opportunity to participate in the same kind of training that astronauts would participate in. I returned one final time to Huntsville to attend Aviation Challenge with a friend, where we participated in flight simulations and jet pilot training.

The dream of becoming an astronaut is not something that I left behind in childhood. The desire remains with me as an adult, and I hope that the paths I choose will someday lead me there.
