Chapter 15

Chapter 15: FIREWALL AND ACCESSORIES

The firewall is made from .016 2024 T-3 aluminum . I traced the template off the plans, and cut with my utility knife and my dremel tool. There is about a 0.5 space on the bottom of the rear bulkhead that is not covered by the aluminum. Dont know if this is per-plans or per-my-error. I have not installed the fiberfax, but I will when I permanently install the firewall.

I'm waiting to buy firewall accessories until I recieve Debs book, which calls for the brake cylinders to be placed up front, not on the firewall.

Ok, so the firewall I made didnt quite fit the back of my airplane. Wary of Rutans template, I purchased another sheet of aluminum, and attached it to the rear bulkhead. THEN I drew the template directly onto the aluminum from there. The result? Perfect fit. I left the plastic cover on the firewall, that's why it looks white.

Several changes to the firewall plan. I'm leaving the firewall on, but I dont think I need to install the bellcranks or the pulleys. Since I have put the brakes up front, there in no need for all that junk in the back. What I will need to do is have a way for the rudder cables to come out the firewall, make a 90degree bend to the rudder conduit in the wing. I'm going to leave the firewall alone for now.
