Distance Analysis of Czech Texts II. Josef Škvorecký: Ze života české společnosti

The work of Josef Škvorecký ”Ze života české společnosti” (From the life of the Czech society) has three parts:

”Ze života lepší společnosti” (From the life of a better society [Part A])

”Ze života socialistické společnosti” (From the life of the socialist society [Part B])

”Ze života exilové společnosti” (From the life of the exile society [Part C]).

The parts are situated in thirties, fifties and seventies of the 20. Century, and each part is written using the corresponding colloquial language. Moreover, the part C is corrupted by many English words.

The text in the format PDF was obtained from CD-ROM published by the Society of Josef Škvorecký. Using ACROBAT READER, it was extracted into the plain text.

After deleting the Content and Author’s Notes,

part A had 60860 bytes, 627 lines

part A had 59820 bytes, 620 lines

part A had 166469 bytes. From it, the first 55016 bytes, 628 lines, were used to get all three parts comparable according to their length.

In the following table, the results of statistical analysis are tabulated:

EX – exponential distribution,

ER – Erlang distribution,

LN – lognormal distribution,

WE – Weibull distribution,
