| Pahoehoe | A Hawaiian term for a type of lava that is fast and quick flowing |
| Aa | A Hawaiian term that is the oposite of Pahoehoe lava, it flows slowly |
| Shield Volcanoe | A type of volcanoe that is created from weak eruptions and slow lava flows |
| Cinder Cone | A type of volcanoe that is created from violent eruptions. |
| Composite Volcanoes | A type of volcanoe that is formed from alternate weak and violent eruptions |
| Convection Currents | When cool rocks close to the earth's surface sink to the core and when hot magma rises to where the cool rock was it creates a continuous motion |
| Lava | Hot molten rock that has reached the surface of the earth |
| Magma | Hot molten rock that has not reached the surface of the earth |
| Crater | A funnel shaped depresion at the top of a volcano |
| Caldera | The result of a caldera collapsing |
