Compromise on Abortion?

The raging debate over the rights of unborn Americans/abortion rights will continue for years to come. Although I firmly believe abortion is nothing short of murder, I would like to propose a compromise for the near term. The abortion rights activists want every one to have the "choice" to abort, or perhaps even to carry their child to term. Those advocating the rights of the unborn believe that a mandate must only come from the federal government since abortion is "murder". My compromise would allow each state to decide for itself if, and under what conditions, abortions would be legal within its borders.

The compromise as I see it would accomplish several goals. Among these goals are,

1 To give more power to the people, where it belongs
2 To open up a true national dialog, and
3 To reveal what Americans truly believe, not what the major political lobbyists believe.

I forsee such a compromise revealing to our great nation the ultimate need to banish abortions. Most Americans have no understanding that abortion is a surgical procedure, that many women become sterile due to abortions, or that a fetus has a detectable heart beat within 12 weeks of conception. Information such as this will be disseminated to the Common Man and He will be allowed to vote his conscience with a much firmer grasp of the abortion issue. As more Americans become knowledgeable of what abortion does to our nation, and particularly the young women who often engage in abortions, we will see the utter abhorrence of the act revealed through their voting patterns. And as I see it, will eventually lead to the complete abolishment of abortion in America.
