Humans are capable of incredibly degrading acts of violence against their fellow humans. Misguided science, religions, family values, courts, jails and executions have all failed to reduce the level of violence to an acceptable level. Some societies, such as the USA, have very high levels of murder. Acts of murder and other human-caused acts of violence have numerous causes: genetic inheritance, child abuse, torture, greed, societal injustice, alcohol and other drugs, gang-army-police-mob experience and brainwashing, war, media gore, vengeance, spouse abuse, exagerated competitive drives, chemical pollution, unsafe products, unchecked anger, exagerated dominance, ignorance, overpopulation, etc.
To reduce the level of violence to an acceptable level, we need scientific research to codify and rank the causes of violence and to find the techniques necessary to greatly reduce each cause of violence. Then we need to take the practical steps necessary to remove this blot on human character. Successful solutions can be implemented without totalitarian controls or censorship. If we act with compassion, intelligence, vigor and sanity on this matter, the 21st century will become a time of unparalleled happiness and achievement.
