Borjas/Morales Family Reunion
October 18, 1997

The 3rd Borjas/Morales Family Reunion was held at the Formosa Club House in Point Comfort, Texas.

A general meeting with the whole reunion congregation was held at approximately 1:30 PM.  Our President Arturo Garcia (Corpus Christi, TX) opened the meeting with a warm Thank You to all who attended this reunion.

Arturo asked the congregation if they wanted the reunion to continue?  The response was a definite YES!  Arturo also asked if they wanted to change the gathering of the reunion from 2 , 4, or more years.  Response was that family members would get disinterested if we gathered more than two years.

After a report of attendance of approximately 100 family members, as of the October 11, 1997, family planning meeting at Larry & Dora Gonzales' home (Texas City, TX), we thanked Richard Bustos (Bay City, TX), for the use of his cellular phone, and Lidia Veliz (Port Lavaca, TX), for helping making calls to family members on October 4, 1997, to help determine the number of attendance .

A brief comment was made by Arturo concerning the election of new officers.  He stated that it was a large obligation to be an officer, (i.e. - the trips, expenses, etc.), but he also expressed that it was a rewarding job, and called for the election of new younger officers, so that the older officers could take a breather.

The following family members were elected unopposed:

  • President, Michelle Veliz, (Port Lavaca, TX)

  • Vice-President, Laura Luera, (Angleton, TX)

  • Secretary, Renee Gomez, (Bay City, TX)

  • Treasurer, Jill Warren, (Lumberton, TX)

  • Historian, Ruben Borjas, Jr., (Pearland, TX)

  • Sergeant-At-Arms, Ruben Gomez, (Bay City, TX)

The whole congregation welcomed our ne officers for the 1999 reunion, and wished them the best of luck.

Arturo thanked everyone that had brought crafts for the raffle.  Larry & Dora Gonzales donated a beautiful carved egg, a family reunion plate, and a ceramic Santa Claus.  Lidia Veliz donated a Christmas Topiary Tree. Esther & Richard Bustos donated a Thanksgiving Flower arrangement, a wreath floral arrangement, a Jack-)-Lantern planter, and a live plant.  Ruben & Angie Borjas (Pearland, TX) donated an oil lamp, gifts for the bingo, and a Texas -shaped cake.  Mona Smidt (Conroe, TX) doanted some crafts for the children and decorated the Texas -shaped cake.  Other family members that brought dessert were greatly appreciated.
