Welcome to Simba's Home Page. The following are various pictures of my Akita Inu. We were very lucky with Simba as he was a Pet Store puppy. He is surprisingly well behaved. Since then, we have learned a lot about dogs and we will never purchase a dog from a Pet Store again!
In the future, we will be rescuing a 'friend' for Simba and we encourage all potential dog owners to rescue a puppy instead of buying. If you must have a show dog (which requires patience, big bucks and tons of time) buy from a responsible breeder. Purchasing from a Pet Store only supports horrible Puppy Mills wich maintain dogs in filthy, inhumane conditions.
Speaking of being careful, choose your kennel and vet wisely. The one time I kenneled Simba (Malibu Pet Hotel, Freeport, LI, NY) he became very sick.
My former vet (Hilton Animal Hospital, Lynbrook, LI, NY) missed a torn cruciate in Simba's knee, twice. The third visit, when he was in severe pain and could no longer walk, it was finally diagnosed. Unfortunately the ligament was torn completely by then! Another very expensive surgery later ... well, you can see Simba's 'war wound' in the pictures. He also has severe arthritis in that knee now. So much for this vet (it is so hard to find quality healthcare these days ... even for animals).
The moral of these stories is choose your 'professionals' carefully or you will be very sorry! The really sad part is that Simba is only 2 1/2 years old; he's been through hell and back already! Thank God he still has a pleasant disposition.
