This is the Unofficial web site of the Malta Police Force.

The Malta Police Force was founded on the 12th July 1814, this makes it one of the oldest Police Forces in Europe, if not the world. The General Headquarters are based in Floriana, less than a mile away from Valletta, the fortified Capital City of the Island.

The Police Commissioner is Mr. John Rizzo and his Deputy is Mr. Joseph Cachia. There are about 1800 serving members and their ranks in the force are as follows:-

  • Sergeant Major

  • Inspector
  • Superintendent
  • Assistant Commissioner
  • Deputy Commissioner
  • Commissioner

    The members are entitled to a pension after 25 years of service.


    The members of the Force are members of the International Police Association (IPA) and the Force is a member ofINTERPOL.

    Government launches Official Police Web Site



    The Government has launched the Official Web Site for the Police Force. From this site one can lodge a report regarding a criminal offence; report a lost item; give information to the Police; request information; file a complaint about or commend a police action/officer; follow the progress of your report on line.
    This new service should make life easier for every web surfer needing these Police services.

    On the 5th October 1998, the Public Broadcasting Services had started screening a series of episodes entitled Il-Każ. These episodes were produced by Tonio Bonello and presented by Joe Dimech. They were based on a series of reanactments of unsolved crimes. The intention was to gather fresh information, hopefully, to help shed new light on the happenings.
