Lions Clubs International began as a dream of Chicago Insurance man Melvin
Jones, who wondered why local business clubs could not expand their horizons
from purely business concerns to the betterment of their communities and
the world at large.

His efforts resulted in an organizational meeting at a local hotel on June 7, 1917.
The 12 men who gathered there voted the "Association of Lions Clubs"
into existence.
Later that year, October, a national convention was held in Dallas,
Texas where 36 delegates representing 22 clubs approved the Lions Clubs
designation. Dr. William P. Woods of Indiana was the first President and founder
Melvin Jones was acting secretary.

Community leaders soon began to organize throughout the US and became
International with the formation of the Windsor Lions Club in 1920.
By 1927, membership stood at 60,000 in 1183 clubs.

Tokyo Shintoshin Lions Club

Tokyo Shintoshin Lions Club was established in 1989.
The club has 58 members. We have regular meetings 2 times a month
at Tokyo Hilton Hotel in Shinjyuku.

In October 1995 we set about supporting bone marrow transplantation.
October 8, 1995, October 12, 1996, October 17,1997 and October 4,1998
we performed campaign supporting bone marrow transplantation at Shinjyuku.
This year we fortunately got 63 applicants of donor.

For the sake of the campaign, we are of the opinion that we should even save
our expense for the operation of the club including those of meetings and
conferences so as to increase the fund for the social service.
We are ready to welcome new members.
