Round Rock Police Department Explorer Post 1096

Objectives:

A)To serve as a potential recruitment tool for future men and women in police service

B)The police explorer program will further the Explorer's education by providing the members with a basic knowledge of the field of policing. Members will recieve instruction in all phases of policing including criminal law, traffic law, criminal investigation, crime prevention and other related fields which are integral part of policing.

C)To serve as a community relations effort between youth and community.
The police explorer program brings the Explorer into direct contact with police officers on a one-to-one basis through it's meetings, projects, special functions and ride along program. Explorers are given the responsibility and respect they earn. In turn, they can make their public service felt among members of the community, especially in their age bracket.

D)Potential use as supplemental manpower
Although Explorers are not to be used in place of police personnel, they can supplement them. Explorers can free officers to concentrate on the omst important aspects of their jobs. Utilizing police explorers to their full potential can bring savings in manpower to the unit. Qualified members will also participate in the ride-along program, a privilege of membership, allowing for an on-site understanding of policing on the street.

E)To be utilized as a service group within the community
Community organizations may call upon the Explorers to assist with security, crowd control, traffic direction, drug and safety programs, etc. Explorers will not be used in assignments requiring police authority, but can be used to assist the community under the direction and supervision of Round Rock Police Officers, with the permission of the Chief of Police
