About the APDY
The Asia-Pacific Democrat Youth was founded in the Australian city of Fremantle, on the ninth day of nineteen ninety nine. This network of young political leaders was founded at a time when economies in the region were being buffeted by the "Asian Economic Crisis." The APDY set itself the mission of building a regional network of young political leaders dedicated to expanding the reach of free trade, economic development and political freedom. We are determined to lift every part of the Pacific region onto the path to prosperity.
The foundation meeting coincided with a conference held by the Australian Young Liberal Movement. Also coinciding in Fremantle, was an executive meeting of the International Young Democrat Youth. Member organisations which joined the APDY include political parties, youth movements and student groups which have signed our declaration of principles.
The priority in the year 2000 will be to increase the internet presence of the organisation and expand the APDY to encompass the widest possible number of centre-right political parties in our region.
