I feel I was born to take photographs. Having done it, nothing else is ever good enough. I can't explain it any more clearly than that. When my daughter Jessica was 4 or 5, I was working on a series of photographs taken in and around quarries. One day, I took Jess with me and we drove to the rim of a quarry. In her car seat, looking out over the huge pit she stated, "Dad, that's the biggest hole I have ever seen in my whole life!" When we got to the bottom of the pit, after walking around for a few minutes and taking some shots she asked where had that big hole gone? She didn't believe me when I told her we were in that big hole and accused me of 'telling her a story'. As we drove out and the hole again assumed recognizable proportions, she stated triumphantly, "look, there's that big hole again, Dad!" That sums up my relationship with photography, I can be in so deep I can't see the hole I am in. I need to climb out and look around and let everything resume a recognizable proportion. I have walked away from the pit many times but have always come back to peer in. My fascination with photography has always pulled me back. Thank you for visiting my website. I welcome any and all comments and will be happy to answer any questions you might have. |
