The professional Fire Department in Glens Falls was started in 1903, after the fires of 1864,
1884 and 1902 had destroyed a substantial amount of what was then the Village of Glens Falls.
The paid Fire Department was started to hopefully eliminate such widespread destruction.
Although there were some big fires from 1903 to present, the amount of damage never came
close to matching the destruction caused by those earlier fires.
