PURPOSE
Human beings, and especially human beings who smoke, are an independent lot. They have decided that smoking is a lifestyle choice, and if it's a risky choice, so be it. All the nagging, all the complaining, all the defamation, all the junk science "studies," all the tax increases have not made them comply with the anti-tobacco forces in their zeal to make the planet smokefree. There's still a good bit of the old James Dean rebellion about the smoker of today, vestiges of the rugged individualist of prior years.
That's a good thing. Until that independence shows up as an unwillingness to join others in a fight that includes all of us. Unless that unwillingness to form coalitions harms the community of smokers being bombarded with anti drivel on a daily basis, losing rights that have been inherent since the country was formed. Each smokers' rights group was formed by, or is headed up by, someone with a passion for a particular part of the smokers' rights movement. He or she may see that particular issue as the most important, the most possible, the most cost-effective, or even the easiest part of the battle. Others may believe he is spinning his wheels. For whatever reason, there are numerous pro-smoker organizations and many, many attempts to get them together under one umbrella have failed. This is our answer to that situation. We want to get all the smokers' rights groups we have found on the web together in one place. We all need help to overcome the current hysteria fueled by the statistical manipulation that drives public policy. In this Ring will be organizations that run the gamut from radical to moderate, from politically active to information-gathering. If one doesn't suit your fancy, check out another one. There is a wealth of knowledge in this Web Ring, and it's all ammunition in the War on Smoke Nazis.
DEFINITION
A web ring is a group of linked web sites with a common theme or similar interest throughout the global community of the world wide web. A ring provides a netizen a fast and efficient way to find information he or she needs on a particular subject. A surfer can surf through the sites consecutively and end up where he started, he can click on a random site, or he can view an entire list of all sites in the web ring. A ring is also a way for the website owner to generate more traffic. Membership in the web ring is free.
The Smokers' World Web Ring is provided for smokers' rights organizations, individuals, and others who believe that the evils of Big Government are far more harmful to society than the evils of Big Tobacco are to health.
WHO CAN JOIN?
This Web Ring will include only sites related to smoking, smokers' rights and the War on Tobacco. If you have a pro-freedom-to-smoke website, please consider joining the Smokers World Web Ring. This Ring can be joined by submitting your site(s) with the form below. All submitted sites will be reviewed by the Smokers World Web Ring Owner and if found to contain acceptable content, will be placed into the ring and the site notified. Membership is free and is at the discretion of the Ring owner.
1. Make sure your page is pro-freedom of choice to smoke; no anti-tobacco sites will be considered for inclusion in the Ring. We will consider commercial sites if the products listed fit the overall theme of smokers' rights (i.e., discount cigarettes).
2. You must add HTML code to your webpage to allow the ring's logo and navigation bar to appear on your home page. After the code is added to your site, email the Ring Owner that you have done this and request activation for your site.
3. You must maintain your own
webpage and keep it updated appropriately.
How does it work?
If you have read the rules and agree to them, fill out the following form. You will then be assigned a unique site ID and receive by email the HTML code fragment you need to put on your smoking-related page. Add this HTML code to your page as soon as possible (preferably at the bottom). Right click on the Smokers World logo at the bottom of this page and save it to your own site's image file. The HTML fragment you receive will have a place to insert the path to the logo as well as creating the correct information for your site (scroll down to see how it will look).
When you have added the HTML code to your page (the same page that you have registered as your homepage URL), your site will be placed in the queue of sites awaiting review. All sites will be reviewed within 10 days and you will be emailed notice that you are now a Ring Member.
