NEW LABOUR'S DEMOCRATIC DEFICIT

IF YOU PLEBEIANS WON'T VOTE THEM IN, THEN I WILL JUST HAVE TO CREATE MINISTERS MYSELF.

How to get Three Ministers for the price of One

New Labour's Scottish Advocate General
resigned her seat ( Edinburgh - Pentlands Constituency )
before the May 2005 General Election, saying that
she would not stand as an MP again, because of
wanting to do other things, etc.

This was most convenient for the incumbent MP
for Edinburgh Central Constituency, Alistair Darling,
( the part-time Secretary of State for Transport,
and also part-time Secretary of State for Scotland ),
since he was able to transfer his nomination from his
old constituency, when it was then eliminated
in 2005 by the Boundary Commission.

He was adopted ( parachuted in )
by the local constituency association for the
"new" seat of Edinburgh South-West,
which replaced the old seat of Edinburgh Pentlands,
which you will remember that the Advocate General,
Lynda Clark, resigned from. Clear so far ?

LYNDA CLARK STANDS DOWN

Alistair Darling was able to win that seat, perhaps
surprisingly, since before the Boundary Commission
changes, it was mainly a Conservative area. Some
of you may think that the word gerrymander
springs to mind, I couldn't possibly comment.

You are all wrong, because Tory Sums, just don't add-up. That's why New Labour can't deliver after 8 years in office.
Gerry Manderson

What a surprise, after the election, it did not
take Tony Blair long to elevate, Lynda Clark to
the House of Lords, as a new "Life Peer", and
Lo and Behold, her "New" job in the Government
is to be, yes you guessed it already,
Scottish Advocate General.

Now I can't even be voted out by the Electorate, I have a Fantastic Well-Paid job for Life, and then a Massive Pension paid for by you lot, is this really Legal, it is because I say so, and after all I am the Scottish Advocate General.
Baroness Lynda Quirk

LYNDA CLARK POPS-UP AGAIN

What a fantastic wheeze that is.
Should you want to increase your effective majority
then you can simply ask MPs to "resign" thier "safe"
seats and put your placemen in those seats instead.
Then simply elevate the MP, who resigned, to the Peerage
and give them back thier old job, in the Government.

Perhaps you disagree with this sort of deceitfulness,
if so, then please phone the House of Commons,
0207-219-3000
and ask for your MP and complain
about this Undemocratic Nonsense.

Blair under fire over reshuffle

Any slight resemblance between my new Minister and a marble Statue is purely intentional ADONIS

Tony Blair is facing criticism for using his
reshuffle to appoint one of his 'henchmen'
as a Minister. Andrew Adonis, said to be the
driving force behind the controversial student
top-up fees policy, has been given a peerage
and a job in the education department.

The Liberal Democrats' Phil Willis called it

"the most appalling appointment" of an "unelected crony".
"If Tony Blair can't find one of his elected MPs
as an education minister, then, my goodness,
the government is in a sorry state"
