First off, I would like to ask, why the American Government prohibits substances that may hurt ones body. It is your body, your person, so you should have the right to chose whether you want to harm yourself or not. I personally would not take the risk, but if someone else wants to experiment or use drugs, it should be their right. It does not harm others by only consuming the drug, it only harms the person who is using the substance. |

On another subject about drugs, drug free programs are virtually doing nothing positive in the "fight" against substance abuse. DARE is a great idea, but is not being taught correctly in schools around the country. It brings awareness to the drugs at an early age, and shows the consequences, but mainly only in detail with marijuana, and leaves other drugs undiscussed. It is too childish (coloring workbooks, cartoon figures teaching the lesson, and getting awards being able to hold the DARE lion during class, ect.), and the DARE officers do not usually allow the student to speak their opinions on the subject matter. In the classes, you must agree that all drugs are bad, and they force the children in some cases to declare they will never touch an illegal substance. Most children experiment some time or another in their lifetimes, and making a kid promise a police officer that they won't do these things, is ridiculous and should not place that kind of pressure on a 5th grade student. |
