THE EMPLOYEE SAFETY CODE

Employees in the construction industry are normally exposed to a wide variety of activities and products related to the theme of safety.  Many employees conduct specific training classes such as trenching safety, fall protection, haz-com awareness, ect.  You may be one of those employers.  But, do you ever sit down with your employees and explain to them just what you expect of them regarding their daily and overall approach to the basic concepts of safety?  Every employer should.  If you haven't recently, the following is a safety code your employees should know and live by on the job.

1.  Follow all safety rules, regulations, and policies.
2.  Work carefully and keep all work areas clean and free of debris.
3.  Request assistance when unsure how to perform any task safely.
4.  Immediately report any unsafe acts or conditions to a supervisor.
5.  Use and maintain all safety devices provided.
6.  Use and maintain tools properly.
7.  Assist co-workers with safety requirements.
8.  Read and understand all safety manuals and booklets distributed or provided to you.
9.  Review bulletin board or employee areas for periodic postings regarding safety.
10.  Never use alcohol, drugs, or controlled substances on the job.  Don't report to work under the influence.  If you take prescription medication which may affect your ability to work safely, you must report such to your supervisor.
11.  Attend safety training sessions and safety meetings and pay attention!
12.  Immediately report all injuries, regardless of severity, to your supervisor.

Remember your employer works hard to keep you safe, and to keep up with the latest and most effective safety processes.  Out common goal of a safe, efficient workplace will not be reached unless each one of us does our part.  Do your part; follow the employee safety code.  Your cooperation may save a life.

To show that you have received and understand this safety information, please sign and return one copy to the foreman at your
Monday morning safety meeting.  Keep the other copy for your reference.
