HOLIDAY PARTIES

It's party time and many of us attend office parties, family parties, and parties at friend's houses where alcoholic beverages are served.  It is probably not necessary to tell you that drinking and driving don't mix, but do you always have a designated driver?  You must realize that most people will fail a blood alcohol test after consuming two ounces of liquor, to glasses of wine, or two beers.  It takes approximately one hour for a drink to pass through you system.

If you drink at one of these parties, don't drive.  Ride home with a designated driver, or take a taxi.  And don't kid yourself walking along the road can also be dangerous if you had too much to drink.

If you are throwing a party, ask your guests about designated drivers when they arrive.  If guests drink, help them get home safely with a designated driver or call a cab.  If you serve alcoholic beverages, be sure to serve food or snacks and provide some non-alcoholic beverages for the designated drivers.  Some companies go as far as providing a van or shuttle service for employees to get to and from the office party, which is an excellent idea and considerably less expensive than a lawsuit.

The holidays are a time to have fun with family, friends, and co-workers and to be thankful for the gift of life and happiness that is bestowed upon us.  Don't let a foolish mistake spoil the holidays for you or someone else.  Use common sense and think safety for all.
