Federal Elections

President

George W. Bush has been re-elected to the nation's highest office. Thank goodness! For Kerry to have won, we would have had someone who deserted the fighting men and women of the U.S. in Vietnam. And, that would have been a tragedy. We would have had someone who met with North Vietnam leaders during the War. Someone who collaborated with Jane Fonda. Someone who, supposedly, threw his medals away. Where is Michael Moore today?

Picture of George BushAmericans have proven that they yearned for the re-election of a bold leader with the courage of his convictions and the vision to guide our nation to greatness. While others believe that "perception is everything and issues are nothing," George W. Bush disagrees. He laid out a compelling vision for America's future and proposed concrete, specific reforms for how to make our country a better place to live. These are the issues that affect our health and happiness, our life and liberty, our children's schools and our country's future. No one can say that in the race for President, voters didn't have a clear choice. They did, and they made a clear and correct choice.

Notes on the Campaign

8/4/00 - Clinton's giving a Medal of Freedom to Jesse Jackson according to an AP article. Jackson, as cited in the piece states that Jackson is considered an asset and a pest by Clinton's administration.  Apparently, against Clinton's staff wishes, he went to Yugoslavia and retrieved three American soldiers held as prisoners.

10/29/00 - In a surprise move, the Times Picayune today endorsed George W. Bush for President. The newspaper cited: his ability to lead, to connect with people, to draw disparate groups together. This is indeed a surprise coming from the liberal ownership of the area's only newspaper.

11/4/00 - Kevin Armant of Gretna, Louisiana writes in a Times Picayune article that George W. Bush, "... failed to disclose to the American public the fact that at the age of 30 he was arrested for and pleaded guilty to drunken driving." Interesting, especially when his obvious candidate claimed that he invented the Internet, did not use White House phones to collect contributions and didn't know the Buddhists were dong a fundraiser. Armant also forgets that his candidate's past running mate has been convicted of lying in the Paula Jones case. None of this was forthcoming from either mouth as a confession, etc.

11/8/00 - As of right now, we do not know who has won the nation's top prize. The culprit, Florida. Either candidate WILL win if he takes the Sunshine State. While it seems unbelievable that a progressive state such as Florida can't count votes, there are problems here.

Nationally, Gore has a very slim margin in the popular vote - while Bush leads in the Electoral College. Louisiana went Republican, unlike its 1996 Democratic vote.

Senate

12/8/02 - Incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu defeated Suzie Terrell by a four point margin. Backed by the labor and black vote, Mary rode the coat tails of her voting record. Her voting record? Mary says, and does often vote, against party lines. Suzie did what she said she would do while in elective state office. She eliminated corruption within her department. Too bad she lost...

11/4/04 - Congressman David Vitter swept his election for the Senate and avoided a second primary. Louisiana's Senate delegation is now evenly divided. One Democrat. One Republican.

House of Representatives

11/4/04 - William Jefferson won, and that's a shame. Tauzin III and Melancon are in a runoff. Richard Baker won. Alexander's in. Tauzin III, who may have gotten a big Bellsouth job on his name, benefitted from an ill-timed announcement from his father thanking the public for their support politically and healthwise. Ill-timed and in poor taste. The elder Tauzin said that he'd been wanting to say this for a long time and that it was not politically motivated. And, he expected us to believe that baloney!

8/19/00 - David Vitter, who one a special electiion to replace Bob Livingston, saw five people qualify to run against him.  Political unknowns: John Simanonok, Michael Armato and Arnold Lupin joined Cary J. Deaton and Martin A. Rosenthal in vying for 1st Congressional seat.

8/19/00 - William Jefferson was assured another term as the 2nd District's representative when no one filed to run against him at the close of the qualifying period yesterday. Too bad. He was the only member of the state's group to escape opposition. Again, too bad.

8/19/00 - Billy Tauzin, the 3rd District incumbeent, picked up three opponents yesterday. Edwin J. Albares,  Dion Bourque and Anita W. Rosenthal.

8/19/00 - In the 4th District race, incumbent Jiim McCrery was challenged by: Phillip Green, Dennis A. Northcutt, James Skains and Michael Taylor.

8/19/00 - John Cooksey saw Roger Beall, Raymond Dumas and  Sam Melton, Jr. qualify against him for the 5th District seat.

8/19/00 - In the 6th District, Richard Baker (inncumbent) had two others qualify against him. They are: Kathy Rogillo and Michael Wolf of Baton Rouge.

8/19/00 - Only one other person qualified in thee 7th District race to run against the incumbent, Chris John of Crowley.  Michael P. Harris, from Lafayette, put his papers in.

9/2/00 - The Times-Picayune reports that William Jefferson has lobbied West Jefferson Medical Center officials to give staff privileges to a doctor who has a suspended medical license. It did not help. Apparently the hospital administrators had better sense.

10/28/00 - David Vitter's four  opponents in the 1st District race include: a waiter, lawyer, doctor and English teacher. One puzzling thing here is Cary Deaton's residence outside the district. How can this be? Is this legal? If it is, it's one on me. Michael Armato is the waiter. Martin Rosenthal is the teacher who, apparently, commutes from his district residence to Central High School in Harrison Mississippi five times a week. Wow! John Paul Simanonok, a Libertarian, is a doctor. And, Deaton is an attorney. Remember, Vitter is barrister who formerly represented state district 81 ins the state legislature.

10/29/00 - The Times Picayune today endorsed David Vitter for re-election to his 1st Congressional position in the House of Representatives. Hardly a liberal, this endorsement is another surprise after the area's only newspaper also came out for George W. Bush for President. In the 3rd District the Picayune endorsed Billy Tauzin.

11/8/00 - Since this election is important, see the  Election 2000  web page within this site for more detailed information, both nationally and locally. Complete coverage is there, as well as surface opinions. Thank you, webmaster.

12/16/01 - The fine for a house that was illegally torn down has yet to be paid. $25,000! Bet you're wondering if a politician has anything to do with it? Or, his family? Go 'head and guess. Yes, you're right! One politician's family has. Archie Jefferson, brother of Congressman Bill Jefferson and brother to Assessor Betty Jefferson, is refusing to answer inquiries. A Congressman and an Assessor. They even have an influential tie to Southern. Wow, how blessed can a politician's family be. It's Christmas time, they should be making good their influence. Illegal razing? Dodging the fine? Hmmmm. Pay the fine for the illegal action, Archie. I think that he probably thought, or still thinks, he can get away with it. You know what? He has...

Judges

Throughout the 1990s, members of the federal branch in New Orleans, appointees of Republicans and Democrats alike, enjoyed the hospitality of conservative groups that sponsors educational seminars for judges, and at least one liberal environmental group is taking notice.

5/8/01 - Did federal magistrate violate any ethics when she didn't recuse herself in a lawsuit involving Tulane University? U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan saw two other magistrates dump the the latest Bernofsky lawsuit. Joseph Wilkinson and Lance Africk recused themselves. Berrigan decided against excusing herself from  Bernofsky vs. Tulane University. Berrigan, who taught an overseas course for the university, also sat on the board of Armistad Center, a black research center supported by Tulane.Bernoksky, apparently had two suits thrown out against Tulane.

6/26/03 - The son of Sen. John Breaux, John Jr. is certainly benefitting from his father being a U.S. Senator. One million dollars in income in two years. Nice, huh....He's not alone. Several others nationwide are enjoying the same perks...Some are lobbyists where their father, or mother, has supported legislation as supported by their sons. Rep. Tauzin is another. Apparently, the notion that this looks bad doesn't bother them...
