The Offspring have been playing punk rock since 1986 when Holland and Kreisel (Greg K) got together through their high school cross country track team in Garden Grove, Calif. The quartet progressed from playing covers on the weekends to a deal with Epitaph, the Los Angeles indie run by former Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. It's taken ten years of solid hard work for the offspringto cross the boundaries from hardore to the billboard top ten. The grung landslide of the past three years has given way to pure punk capturing the hears and minds of the lollapalooza generation. The mainstream has now been breached and with bands such as The Offspring, Greenday, and NoFX burning up the college radio charts it was only a matter of time before the influence would leak into the major charts.
"The Offspring's second album for Epitaph did the impossible: it landed in the Top Five, unheard of for independent records." Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All-Music Guide
