My Experiments With Mexican Food.

I do love the Mexican food. I could eat it everyday.

Lucky me, there is a large migrant population in Lake County. Lately I have been buying any kind of food I can find.

Here are my findings:

-Food Results

1. Goya brand "Maria" Cookies: These were pretty good. My sister thought they were crackers. Rating: Thumbs up.

2. Goya brand Flan w/ "Golden Carmel": "Spanish-style custard" according to the box. The "Golden Carmel" smelled suspsiciously like maple syrup but I made it anyway. It was terrible. I just threw it out. Rating: Thumbs down.

3. Abuelo brand tortillas: These were fine. Rating: Thumbs up.

4. El Rio brand enchilada sauce: I really liked it. Rating: Thumbs up.

5, 6, and 7. I bought some rice and corn pudding and strawberry gelatin the other day but I haven't had the time to make them yet. We'll see!

-Drinks

I don't really like the nectar (fruit juice) but my dad seems to like it really well.

1. Jumex brand: It is similar to American juice but more sugary. Rating: Excellent.

2. Goya brand: These are okay. They come in 12 oz cans. I've gotten peach and pear/passion fruit.

-Restaurants

On a recent trip to get donuts in Geneva on the Lake, I stopped in Geneva proper at the "R Columbo Spanish Import" shop. Sweet mercy! You've never seen so much Goya in your whole life! I was in heaven! The guy was nice to me.

Last week I went to "The Latin Corner" on Richmond and Route 2 in Painesville. This is a very authentic Mexican restaurant as many immigrants live in that area.

Going in, I didn't know what to expect. I thought they might be mean to whitey (me). However, the girl who took my order was really nice. I got four enchiladas and an order of flan. The enchiladas were good and my dad liked the flan. I was very pleased by my trip.

This week I tried the highly reccomended "Pancho and Leftys" in Cuyahoga Falls. It was pretty good.

Recently, I tried "El Campesino" in Stow with my fraternity brothers. It is excellent.
