I am Melissa, and you are in Melissa's world! Welcome. I am currently attending school at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. I am having one of the hardest semesters of my life, but I do manage to have fun too.

As for what I'm doing in college, well, that'll take a while. I am a math major, and I am getting my teaching certificate. I want to teach high school math one day. I also want to coach cross country and track, so I am getting my coaching endorsement. I am minoring in English and also certifying to teach it. I have had to take heavy hours, but I will graduate in May! Yeah! After graduation, I want to go to graduate school part time and teach high school. And sometime after that, I want to teach in an inner city school like that movie Stand and Deliver.

My Family
I have a great family. My dad is a computer-guy, and my mom is a court reporter. I have 2 younger sisters and one brother. Amy, the drummer chic, also attends Harding; she's majoring in music education. Brandon is a senior at West Mesquite High School, and this year, he is drum major. My youngest sister, Christy (a.k.a. Wedgey) goes to WMHS too. She's a junior and plays saxophone and is on the color guard. Another very important part of my family is our precious puppy, Skittles. She's not really a puppy anymore; she's 7 years old, and she's the cutest little thing around. She's half poodle and half Lhasa Apso.

In my spare time . . .
I like to spend a lot of time working out, but unfortunately, I end up working late or studying or getting sick. Running is my favorite sport, and I try to run every day. I'm hoping to run the Motorola Marathon in February. My goal is to complete a marathon sometime, but it is really difficult to train while in college. I do know people who have, and I really admire them. I've also played the piano for over 13 years, but the past two years I have slacked off. I really needed a break because I spent a lot of time with it my freshman year in school. Now I have to focus on other things, but I do hope to own a piano when I graduate and to be better about practicing. I also have two new hobbies--crocheting and gardening. I finished my first afghan this summer, and last spring I planted my first garden, but since I had to leave school, it died over the summer. I'm going to try my hand at tulips and daffodils this year, so I need to get started pretty soon.
