Something about me

I come from Zhengzhou, located 30 km to the south of the Yellow River, in Henan Province of People's Republic of China, where I have worked on the cultivation and breeding of seedless watermelon as a research assistant at Zhengzhou Institute of Pomology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for five years (1989-1994).

In 1986 I graduated from Department of Biology of Henan Normal Universty in Xinxiang, Henan Province with a degree of Bachelor of Science. After further three-year study on cytogenetic of interspecific hybrids between the two Nelumbo species at Wuhan Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, Hubei Province, I got a degree of Master of Science.

As a PhD student (09.1994-09.1999), my study was focused on the identification and chromosomal location of genes for resistance to powdery mildew in common wheat using monosomic analysis and molecular markers for a PhD degree under the supervision of Prof. Dr. F. J. Zeller at Division of Plant Breeding and Applied Genetics, Technical University of Munich, Freising-Weihenstephan, Germany.

From 10.1999 to 06.2004 I worked as a research scientist on wheat variety identification and characterization of wheat germplasm by means of microsatellite markers with Dr. M. Ganal, and molecular detection and mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for yield and yield components with Dr. M.S. Roeder, at Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), Gatersleben, Germany.

Since 07.2004 I have been working as an NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) visiting fellow on physical mapping (contig construction) and genome organisation of quality traits such as grain protein and hardnesss in wheat with Dr. Cloutier at Cereal Research Centre, Winnipeg, Manitona, Canada.

I have got a happy family. My wife's name is HUANG Hongying. We have got two sons and their names are HUANG Haodong and HUANG Haoxi, respectively.
