My name is Michael Staake. I graduated from UC San Diego with a PhD in organic chemistry. There I studied the chemistry of the anticancer compound irofulven (depicted in the graphic to the right). My favorite activity is skiing. To the left is a picture of me at Mt. Baldy ski resort in Southern California.. I have also been to Snow Summit, Mountain High, Snow Valley and Bear Mountain in Southern California, Mammoth Mountain, Diamond Peak and Heavenly in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Mount Bachelor in Oregon, and Brian Head in Utah. In the future I would like to go to Whistler in British Columbia and the Utah resorts around Salt Lake City. See some of my ski pictures in the pictures page. |

I also mountain bike. I ride both on paved bike trails and on unpaved trails near my house. The three nearby paved trails are the Santa Ana River path, the Yorba Linda trail and the Deer Canyon Park Preserve. The latter is virtually unknown and has nice natural scenery. Unpaved paths I have ridden on include the Anaheim Hills ridge trail, Weir Canyon loop, and several trails within Chino Hills State Park, Santiago Oaks Regional Park and Irvine Regional Park.
