MANAGEMENT OF CREATIVITY

I.            OBJECTIVE:

This elective aims to help you to develop:

1.   an understanding of creative processes and creative problem solving techniques;

2.      managerial\behavioural skills conducive to encouraging creative efforts in self and others; and,

3.   an insight into organisational systems and structures which facilitate creativity and innovation.

II.         COURSE DESIGN:

a.         The course is designed in the form of lectures, classroom exercises and case discussions, covering a minimum total duration of 30 hours of classroom sessions.

b.         There will be a strong emphasis on self and group learning in the course, both within and outside the class. While classroom exercises will be mostly fun, the focus will be on developing skills and conceptual learning from the experience. Obviously, if you fail to participate, there can be no make-up for the learning.

c.         You will be expected to do a considerable amount of preparation out of class on skill development, cases and projects. Participation in the classroom exercises, discussions and presentations will be tied to the learning, and therefore, to the evaluation. Correspondingly, regular attendance, pre-class preparation, and involvement in the learning process will be essential for being effective in the course.

V.         TERM PROJECT

Max Marks:  30

Purpose:

To experiment with one's own creative propensity and to learn about creative process by reflecting on the experience of being creative

Task: (To be done alone or in pair)

·            Select any project of your choice which allows you to be creative in any field - it is a wide canvas and you can make any choice (though my suggestion would be to try to do something which you would not have done otherwise).

·            After completing the project, write your experience of being creative. The write-up can cover all parts of your experience - why/ how you selected this project, what mental processes helped or hindered with your working on it, the blocks and enhancing factors which you experienced, any conclusions which you can derive about your own creative strengths and weaknesses, etc.

·            Submit both your project and the writeup on Session 16th.

·            The criteria of evaluation will be (1) originality and personal relevance of your selected project, and (2) the depth of insight of your reflections
