Annual School Profile

School Climate.
Improving school climate continues to be an ongoing task at Bartlett Yancey High School. Emphasis is being placed on making sure that students, parents and the community feel safe while on school grounds. Specific suggestions for school safety were implemented during the school year. A full-time SRO (School Resource Officer) serves the school.

Staffing.
Thirty-nine percent (39%) of the certified staff members hold graduate degrees. The staff features a wide variety of experience, ranging from zero to 36+ years. The staff includes the principal, two assistant principals, 72 classroom teachers, 1 media coordinator, 1 computer resource teacher, four guidance counselors, five secretaries, eight teacher assistants, seven custodians, twelve food service workers, one student services coordinator, and a School Resource Officer.

Professional Development.
During the school year many professional development activities were available for members of the Barlett Yancey High School's staff. These included "Reading across the Curriculum", "Using Portfolios", "Writing Strategies", "Using Test Results", "End-of-Course Tests", "Creating Life-Long Learners", along with other schoolwide in-services sessions focusing on technology. Many teachers were also attended state, regional and national conferences in their content areas. The BYHS faculty continues its professional development through graduate courses, workshops and seminars.

Parent/community Involvement.
Bartlett Yancey High School receives strong support from parents and the community. Parents and Community members support the school by volunteering their time and efforts for various booster clubs and organizations including the Buccaneer Club, Band Boosters, FFA and NJROTC. Parents and volunteers donated over 5000 hours during the 1997/98 school year. Pre-school conferences are held in August in addition to open houses.
