My Life And Times
not much to see here
I hardly know where to start...I'll try to be brief (my friends know exactly what "brief" is to me).  I'm Andy Miner, an undergraduate at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.  This is probably the best picture anyone has ever taken of me.  I'm holding my Epiphone jumbo acoustic guitar.  It's a senior picture so it's a little old.  I haven't changed much since.
I have lived in the great state of Kansas my whole life.  I was born on July 26, 1981 as the one and only child of Kendall and Renee Miner.  For the first seven years of my life I resided in Concordia, a town of about 7,500 in north-central Kansas.  From second to eighth grade I lived in Hays, a college town of about 20,000 out west (a big city by Kansas standards).  I spent my high school career in Beloit, a town of only 4,500 near Concordia (ironically they are archrivals in pretty much everything).
I don't remember too much about Concordia but I like to consider both Hays and Beloit my hometowns.  I greatly enjoyed my years in Hays despite living under water restrictions and in a climate Zebulon Pike correctly described as the "Great American Desert."  While serving, I mean, spending time at Kennedy Middle School I developed many facets of my life that have shaped me into the wondrous individual I am today.  These include my love of playing in band (and of music in general), my passion for writing, my thirst for knowledge and eagerness to test it in contests, and my moderately right leaning political views.
I made many great friends in Hays and thus the move to Beloit was a very tough one but I survived and eventually found my niche.  During high school I participated in all sorts of activities, such as playing in the band, acting in plays and forensics skits, competing on our excellent Scholars' Bowl team, learning the beautiful German language, and writing for the school newspaper.  Some of my proudest accomplishments are qualifying for national forensics twice, earning a I rating for my clarinet solo at state contest three times, taking first place in editorial writing at state journalism contest, and being the captain of our Scholars' Bowl team my senior year which took third place at state.  It took me a while but in Beloit I made the best friends I've ever had, and it has been very difficult to leave most of them behind.  When the time for college came the University of Kansas was a fairly easy choice--my dream school, Notre Dame, was too expensive and too far away.  I've been a Jayhawk my whole life, quite challenging when living in a town so thoroughly K-State dominated as Beloit.
Enough life history...here's a little about my current self.  My major is German and International Studies.  My personality?  Well, I'm fairly shy until I become comfortable around people then I'll reveal my rather outgoing attitude.  You could call me an intellectual but I try my hardest not to be pigeonholed with that label.  People say I have a great sense of humor, and I love to make people laugh, often not having to try to accomplish it.  I like to read, write, play clarinet and guitar, chat with my friends back home on the Net, and do all sorts of other stuff that you can learn about on my
Interests page. Many other aspects of my character and beliefs can be found on my Writings page.  That's about all I can think of for now.  Go ahead and enter another area of my site, if you dare...
