CHEMICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY: 

  Chemical engg. is one of the oldest branches in L.I.T .It has as many as 8 laboratories and 4 research labs.These labs are well equipped and well maintained with all the modern instruments and machines. 

  Various types of equipments are available with the department for the experimentation.Some of them are Hammer mills, Roll crusher,Pulveriser,Jaw crusher, squirrel cage Disintegrater,Vibrating screens(Double Decker),Standard Screens,Rotary drum drier,Tray drier,Evaporators,Reactors.The testing facilities are also available for the analysis of coal,liquid and gaseous fuels. 

  Research labs contain upto date modern equipment like Storage oscilloscope ,High pressure reactors, Fluidised bed reactor, Foam bed reactor, 3 phase magneto fluidisation reactor, Bubble column reactor,Compact Reactor,Air Lift Reactor,Packed column ,Turbulent bed reactor,Stirred tank reactor,Plate column . 

OIL FATS AND SURFACTANT TECHNOLOGY: 

This Department is one of the largest in this college only next to Chemical Engineering.It consists of six laboratories including four research labs and two for conducting practicals for BTech students.This department is highly equipped with modern instruments like Gas Liquid Chromatograph,portable spectrophotometer,small scale pilot plant of capacity of about 100kgs. for producing all types of paints,ball mill, triple roll mill, atritar mill,all equipments necessary for the manufacture of paints. 

It also provides facilities for modern methods for testing and analysis of Oils, Paints and Inks. 

   PAPER AND PULP LABORATORY: 

  The dept. has a number of spacious and well equipped laboratories such as Paper tech lab, Paper and Pulp making equipments and Paper testing lab.They are equipped with modern instruments such as high precision balances, ovens, furnaces etc.The dept. has its own Pilot Plant consisting of all pulp making machines starting from Chopper, Grinder, Digester, Beaters, Refiners to paper making and finishing units including Sheet cutters, File bending and Punching machines.It has facilities for complete analysis of raw materials and paper testing labs. The testing lab includes all the modern equipment required for complete testing of paper such as Bursting, Tearing , Tensile strength tester,Cobb sizing ,GSM, Brightness, Porosity, Freeness tester etc. 

PETROLEUM REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL LABORATORY: 

  The department has facilities for testing of petrochemical products for various empirical tests.Some of them are Stability tests, Flamability tests, Volatility tests, Viscosity measurement tests,Liquification and Solidification tests.Various chemical and physical analysis and calculation of Diesel Index, Cetane Index and estimation of net heat of combustion. 

PLASTICS AND POLYMERS TECHNOLOGY: 

  Plastics and Polymer Dept. was started in the year 1995. So the laboratories are still in its early stages but it has some of the modern testing machines like Hardness tester, Tensile testing machine,Electronic viscometer,Blow moulding machine etc. Practicals are performed mainly in polymer preparation and polymer analysis.Most of the rare organic chemicals can be found in the polymer lab.Even analysis work for the near by industries is undertaken in these labs. 

FOOD TECHNOLOGY: 

Food Technology laboratory is quite spacious and is provided with HPLC , Spectrophotometer,fermenter, electrophorosis, freeze drier,extruder, spray drier,Liquid liquid extractor,Fluidised drier, Muffle furnace, BOD incubator,SSF plant ,food processor,Moisturometer etc.The department has the facilities for analysis of raw material and processed products. 

  Consultancy services are available from the staff of this department as follows: 

 Preparation of specific commodity report, literature survey,export data,market survey, etc. 

. Feasibility report to guide the prospective entreprenuer regarding market survey,availability of raw material, technology profile. 

Detailed project report involves stepwise establishment of process on turnkey basis including the pretreatment and storage of raw material ,eqiupment design and selection,detailed costing, material and energy balance,etc. 

Product development:Concept of consultancy services for product development in the area of food technology is comparitively recent but has great potential.This involves optimisation of organoleptic characters process parameters, convenience and shelf life.Several low cost nutritional food products from the indigineous raw material have been developed in this department.The field trials for supplementary feeding programme in urban slums have been highly succesful. 

Undertaking specific sponsored R&D projects in collaboration with industry.

  The library of Laxminarayan Institute Of Technology is one of the finest in the Central India.The library started with about 200 books in 1945, now has above 25,000 books,15,000 issues of journals and about 1,408 pamphlet(ISI Specifications etc).It is provided with a sperate building,and spacious reading rooms for the students .It also has a separate spacious room which house the Chemical Abstracts(From 1904 onwards)which is boon not only to the technologists but also to all students of Nagpur University from different disciplines like ,chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, home science, physics, mathematics, geology, etc.The scientists from laboratories like NEERI, AGMARK, INDIAN BUREAU OF MINES, GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA,COTTON RESEARCH INSTITUTE,CITRUS RESEARCH INSTITUTE also use it as per needs.In the resent years facility to get the references/ papers also xeroxed at nominal cost for the students has been started. 

  Presently library contains journals about Food,Paper,Petrochemicals and plastics but it is facing acute fund shortage and because of this, many ambitious projects are under wrap. 

COMPUTER LABORATORY: 

The Computer Laboratory was started in the year 1992 with a foresight to develop chemical engineers with computational ability.It consists of about 20 high performance computers with internet facility free for the students.There are number of design softwares such as DESIGN-II and ASPEN PLUS for student use. The other useful apparatus for use are a pc plotter ,a scanner, inkjet printers.   

HOSTELS:  

This institute has got two hostels each accomadating 100 students.The hostel facilities include the mess, library,common TV room,recreational and sports facilities such as soccer,cricket,badminton and other common sports.The Hostel Day is celebrated on the 26th of January.
